Bald Eagles At Philadelphia Cricket Club

With the Philadelphia Eagles hosting a playoff game today, it felt like a great day to share photos of Philadelphia Cricket Club's own pair of Bald Eagles.

Two Bald Eagles Perched in a Tree

Of the approximate 80,000 Bald Eagles found in the world today, it is estimated that only 200 reside in the state of Pennsylvania (not including the Philadelphia Eagles mascot, Swoop!).  Philadelphia Cricket Club is fortunate to have a pair of our national birds frequenting our grounds!

The golf courses in Flourtown provide an ideal habitat for the birds.  The consistently flowing quarry water (which we also re-use for irrigation purposes) never completely freezes in the winter, and provides cooler water for trout in the summer months.  This combination gives the eagles a great year-round food source.

The golf courses also provide ideal stalking ground for bald eagles.  Unlike heavily forested area, eagles like to perch atop our large trees to scout vast, open areas of the golf courses, along with bodies of water.

Philly Cricket Club's golf courses are providing a home-field type of competitive advantage to our bald eagles.  Hopefully, Lincoln Financial Field provides the same type of advantage tonight in delivering a playoff victory to Philadelphia!  "Fly Eagles, Fly!"

Before and After Powerpoint Presentation of Wissahickon Restoration

After seeing the popularity of the before and after video; we wanted to allow you to get a more detailed look at the before and after photos at your own pace.  Below are two Powerpoint presentations that will allow you to scroll through the photos at your own pace and really take in all the changes of each hole.  The first presentation is the before and after photos of the front nine and the second presentation is of the back nine.  We hope you enjoy scrolling through all the photos.

Wissahickon Restoration - Before and After Video Montage

Now that the major shaping is done and most of the holes have good turf coverage, it is amazing to see the differences in each hole afterwards, when compared to the before photos, taken in April.  To showcase these differences, we have made a "before and after montage video", that allows you to see a before photo; followed by an after photo.  Some holes still have areas that need to be sodded, so this video is just the first as we will continue to update the video as more holes are completed.  In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the video and hope it gives you a sense of just how each hole has changed.

Wissahickon Restoration Update 10/12/13

Since the last update we have completed all the major shaping on the course and continue to work on fine details along with our continued sod work, as we button up areas on the course.  The sod work has included, flopping sod in the fairways as the final lines of the fairways have been drawn out by Keith.  Another big portion of the sod work includes sodding the large bluff to the right of 15 with native fescue.  This will provide a dramatic view next summer when the fescue seed heads turn bright gold.  Please enjoy our most recent photos and our last time lapse video from 14 green.

Greens Sod Complete!

This weekend saw the completion of all the greens being sodded just in time before the heavy rain Saturday night.  The last piece of greens sod was put in to place on the 12th green on Friday evening and now we have another month of good weather to get them grown in.  Below is a collection of photos of a few of the completed greens complexes.  Enjoy the the photos as you envision sticking your approach shot close to the pin on these new, prestigious greens.
